A Bit About Me

Built by expats, for expats.

Our story and the person behind the project.

Our Story

Expat Toolbox began as a personal survival kit. Like most newcomers, I hit the same walls: confusing visa paths, mixed advice on healthcare, and rental pitfalls that cost time and money. I started building checklists, scripts, and trackers to make decisions faster and reduce the unknowns. Friends asked for copies, then friends-of-friends — and the project grew into a library of practical tools anyone can use to settle in with less stress.

Today, Expat Toolbox focuses on the 80/20: the few actions that create most of the stability for a new life in Thailand — visa clarity, healthcare readiness, housing confidence, and basic financial hygiene. Every guide is designed to be clear, modular, and bias-free. If we recommend a provider or service, it’s because it’s useful, not because it’s loud. The goal is simple: help you avoid expensive mistakes and feel at home faster.

I’m Jon, the founder of Expat Toolbox. I relocated from the UK after years of corporate grind and gradually built a grounded, simple lifestyle in Thailand. My background in digital tools and content strategy blended naturally with the day-to-day challenges of living abroad. What you see here is the outcome: a toolkit designed not for theory, but for real life.

How We Operate

We keep things lean, accurate, and discreet. All monetization is handled offshore and low-profile; we don’t run a visible Thailand-based business and we avoid anything that could cause immigration or tax headaches. You get clean, no-drama resources; we stay compliant and focused on building the best expat starter kit on the web.

Some of the thinking behind Expat Toolbox also shows up in my long-running travel and expat project, Clueless Scout Party. It’s a more informal place where I document life in Southeast Asia as it actually unfolds — the good decisions, the bad ones, and the lessons that tend to arrive uninvited.
